Beware of “Hilo Rico” Print E-mail
"Hilo Rico" - also known in English as "Rich Threat" especially to surfers and fishermen.
This jellyfish really burns if it touches you.
If you get stung, locals advise soaking the affected area with hot water and don't scratch!
Scratching only makes it worse. Another common treatment is to pee on the burned area.
This member of the "Medusa" family is also known as “Agua Mala” (Bad Water) in Costa Rica.
