As a Chiropractor, I deal mostly with musculo-skeletal problems or to put it another way, pain resulting from trauma to the spine and muscles. I have always been motivated to learn better, more effective ways of treating people's problems whatever they might be. About five years ago I learnt a new therapy called Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT.
Our emotions and our thoughts can have strong negative effects on our body's producing in some cases extreme pain or anxiety leading to unusual behavior. We can feel anxiety and pain in our bodies as a result of the way we think. These thought patterns literally overload the nervous system causing it to short circuit and we feel this as anxiety, pain, fear, guilt, anger or depression. Often a person is not aware of what caused the strong emotion and tries to cover their symptoms with drugs, alcohol, smoking, physical activity, eating, spending money, or by trying to blame something or someone else for their problems.
EFT is very simple. With the help of a trained practitioner, you key into the emotional triggers causing the nervous system to imbalance. At the same time you tap with your fingers on specific acupuncture points on the face and upper body. The tapping rebalances the nervous system so the trigger cant get a hold of the body's emotions and the trigger is released.
Triggers can happen so fast that we find ourselves automatically doing something which we know is damaging to our health but we can´t seem to understand why we do it or how to change it.
Triggers don't have to be caused by a massive trauma. Conditioning by parents, teachers or other children when we were younger can lead us to develop beliefs about ourselves and the world around us. These beliefs can be challenged by new information we learn as we grow older. This can cause conflict in our mind as the old belief doesn't want to let go. This can lead to anxiety and negative emotions felt somewhere in our body.
The great thing about EFT is its simple to learn and after just a few hours you can learn to treat yourself as your triggers come up in daily life. Once the trigger is released it very rarely returns.
My mission is to help as many people as possible and to teach EFT so that others can help people too. Hope you are having a great day.
