Delicious Edible Flowers Print E-mail

In mid to late dry season, tropical hardwoods begin to bloom. Some of these flowers are edible and delicious!

Pochote - an endangered hardwood, logged for its fine lumber. Flowers and leaves are edible and high in Vitamin C.

Madero Negro - an endangered hardwood. Only the flowers are edible. Many animals, birds and reptiles rely on this flowers for sustenance in late "summer". Commonly used for live fenceposts. Leaves and stems are toxic.

Natural insecticide - soak crushed leaves in water, then bath dogs, horses, or sprinkle around the house, pets areas,...

Both flowers can be added raw to green salads, Madero Negro is especially delicious cooked with scrambled eggs, or eaten raw as a snack with crackers and cream cheese.
