There is no Doubt that Costa Rica is a worthwhile trip, but should we go? To the highlands, volcanoes and coffee plantation? to the numerous National Parks or simply to the beach? Costa Rica is a small country but it has a lot to offer. A country of extraordinary natural beauty with countless tourist attractions.

We would like to present the southern Nicoya Peninsula

This part of the country, witch was not popular until several decades ago, has become a favourit tourist destination in the past few years.
This area is extremely beautiful, mostly hot and sometimes very wet. The southern Nicoya Peninsula is an attractive destination throughout the year.
The area is becoming more and more popular with immigrants. Foreigners as well as locals from elsewhere are attracted by this fast growing community.

Within a 50 km radius, tourists can visit six different places each of which have their own charm. Nature lovers will find abundant flora and fauna and Nature Parks. There are many activities for sports lovers and last but not least good restaurants to suit everybody's means.
Tambor on the Golf of Nicoya with its calm water and large bay is a great place for windsurfing. Here a marina and golf courses can be found.

Between Montezuma and Cabuya, further south, there are several small charming bays.
Montezuma has evolved from a place for travelers to a more mature tourist village, well known for its active night life to Ticos and visitors alike.

Over the other side, on the open Pacific Coast, you will find wide, long beaches where you can walk for miles and experience breathtakingly beautiful sunsets. During the past ten years, the surf beaches of Mal País / Playa Carmen / Santa Teresa have developed from a sleepy village to a boomtown. Property prices have gone sky-high giving the impression that the rich and famous of this world are starting to hang out here. The beach attracts surfers from around the world as surfing is guaranteed, unlike other beaches where the surf possibilities depend on the swell and the weather. In comparison, Manzanillo, with its beautiful beach, still has very little tourism but there is also a lot of planning and construction going on in order to offer future visitors even more.

Coming from San José

The trip from San José to Puntarenas is a beautiful journey through the mountains, either along the Pan American highway going through San Ramon, or the more mountainous road passing through Atenas. Once you get to Puntarenas, you take the ferry to Paquera and enjoy a relaxing ride across the Gulf of Nicoya. From Paquera you travel through tropical landscapes until you reach your chosen destination.
